The Dementia Summit
In 2009, the Neuroscience Initiative of the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry,
University of Santo Tomas, is greatly honored to co-convene with the Dementia Society of
the Philippines the Dementia Summit on October 22-23.

The Dementia Society of the Philippines has grown steadily over the years with
membership ranging from medical to allied professionals. It has always aimed to increase
the awareness about the dementias, enhance skills in detecting conditions that present
with cognitive impairment and provide updates in the said conditions.  Scientific
activities, outreach programs, workshops and annual conventions are regularly organized
to achieve these goals.

Dementia is a condition where both the fields of Neurology and Psychiatry come into
play.  It is high time for a summit that deals with this condition.  The alliance of two
organizations with a unified goal will strengthen the scientific background of this summit.
The organizing committee has planned an extensive scientific program which
encompasses various topics that will dissect the intricacies of the more common
dementias and their behavioral manifestations.   This convention will help equip the
participants with the proper knowledge and skills necessary in facing the epidemic of
dementia worldwide.

The Neuroscience Initiative of the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry, University of
Santo Tomas, and the Dementia Society of the Philippines gladly anticipate the coming
year as we host the Dementia Summit at Hotel Sofitel, Manila.

The invitation is open to all medical practitioners, nurses, allied medical professionals,
trainees and those involved in the care of afflicted individuals who are interested in
dementia and other related disorders.

See you all in the Dementia Summit!
The Neuroscience Initiative of the Department of Neurology and
Psychiatry, University of Santo Tomas, was formed by a group of
highly motivated neuropsychiatrists who consider the advancement of
knowledge in the fields of neurology and psychiatry as one of its top
priorities. The success of the yearly scientific activity spearheaded by
the Neuroscience Initiative has encouraged and inspired the group to
organize another.
